Author Topic: Why does torrent slows down my internet speed?  (Read 545 times)

When I'm downloading torrents on BitComet my internet speed goes from like cable to dial up.
I googled this question but couldn't find a satisfying answer, I just want to know why and how does it consumes my internet soo much, compared to downloading on a download manager/browser.

Maybe its bitcomet? i dont seem to have any problems when i download torrents, i dont use bitcomet either.

A reasonable exaplanation though would prob be the amount of seeds your connecting to (i think its seeds or peers, i always get the two mixed up)

If your connected to a lot, then your splitting the d/l speed across all of them, its probably hogging your speed for other stuff like browsing etc.

But my advice is to try another torrent program first.

its your up-stream that you have to check..

If you are uploading at 90-100% of your capacity, your other requests can't get out..

cut down your upload bandwidth limit, and see if that helps

Yeah check your uploading speed and maybe be a jerk and set it to 1KB/s max.

Well I have both of my Download and Upload rates on Unlimited, now after I've set my Upload rates to 10kbs(thats the lowest) It's gotten whole lot faster, but as for my browsing the web speed its like 1/20 of my original speed.

That's what happened to me.  I was uploading like 100 KB/S and downloading 10 KB/s.  I set my upload max to 1 KB/S and then I was downloading 300 KB/S.  :D

@bluev8killer: That's because that's how the internet works.  Let's say you have 1 Megabyte download speed.  If you're downloading a 950 Kilobytes per second with a Torrent, the rest of your download connection will slow down because your browser would only be able to download websites at 50 Kilobytes per second.
